Description

Windlust is what the Dutch describe as a "stellingmolen" . It is a three storey smock mill with a stage on a three storey base. The base is wooden, on a low brick foundation. The stage is at third floor level, 6.1 metre above ground level. The mill is winded by tailpole and winch. The four Patent sails, which have a span of 21 metre, are carried in a cast iron windshaft which was cast by Prins van Oranje, Den Haag in 1892. The windshaft also carries the brake wheel which has 67 cogs. This drives the wallower (34 cogs) at the top of the upright shaft. At the bottom of the upright shaft, the great spur wheel (103 cogs) drives a pair of 1.4 metre diameter French Burr millstones via a lantern pinion stone nut with 27 staves. A second pair of 1.4 metre diameter French Burr millstones are driven via a lantern pinion stone nut with 31 staves. The millstones used for producing pearl barley are driven by lantern pinion stone nuts with 20 and 21 staves respectively.
