History

Wimbledon Studios was originally established as the Merton Studios. The studios were previously a wine distribution warehouse and was bought by talkbackTHAMES
Thames Television

 as a replacement for their Barlby Road base in the early '90s. Thames stayed there until 2010 when the only show at the time, The Bill

, ended, after which FremantalMedia sold off the studios.

Panther Securities Plc purchased the site for £4.75m in September 2010 and thus Wimbledon Film & Television Studios was set up in October 2010 to provide a new production facility to the film and television industry.

Wimbledon Film & Television Studios will have a total of four stages; two large stages of approximately 8000 square feet (743.2 m²) and two smaller green screen studios which will be opening soon, sized at 2,300 and 2000 square feet (185.8 m²) respectively. The studio has over 50 free standing sets onsite including an exterior street, police stations, hospitals, a prison, a courtroom and the House of Commons set. The studios also include other facilities including a media village.
