Military career

Buckingham joined the 2nd Battalion of The Leicestershire Regiment in 1901, at the age of 15, and served in Egypt and India.
The 2nd Battalion, was posted to France during the First World War. He was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 10 and 12 March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle during which he was wounded in the chest.
He was killed in Thiepval
