Mission

Campus and Local Learning Centres

The main campus and facilities of West Suffolk College are situated on Out Risbygate in Bury St Edmunds. However, the Building and Construction services courses are currently located at a separate campus found on Anglian Lane, Bury St Edmunds.

History

The college was originally founded in 1951 as The Bury St Edmunds Technical Institute and was based at the Silver Jubilee School. The courses provided at this time were largely Engineering, Construction, Building and vocational evening classes.

In 1958, the decision to build a new, purpose built college was taken. As a result the Gibraltar Barracks site was selected to be the new home of the college. It was finally opened as West Suffolk College on the 29th May 1961 by John Rous
