The city has continued to grow very quickly and estimates for 2008 have reached 8,000. Primarily, the growth has been centered around single-family residential construction. Commercial developers have begun purchasing property in the area to provide the necessary commercial services. Commercial developments have been proposed at 300 North 2000 West and around the city hall at 300 North 3000 West.

The North Davis Fire District has recently completed and occupied their headquarters at approximately 350 North 3150 West.

West Point was first settled in 1867. The area was originally known as South Hooper.

Geography

West Point is located at 41°7′17"N 112°5′18"W (41.121489, -112.088222). The city is located along the eastern shoreline of the Great Salt Lake and an extensive network of wetlands are strung along the western boundaries. These areas are essential to migrating birds.

The cities of Clinton and Hooper are located to the north. Clearfield city is located to the east, and the city of Syracuse is located to the south.

, the city has a total area of 7.2 square miles (18.7 km²), of which, 7.2 square miles (18.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.55%) is water. The official annexation policy plan of the city would allow for the city to add a few more square miles to the city. This area is located in the northwest corner of Davis County and is currently unincorporated.
