West Hempstead is also home to a Modern Jewish Community of more than 1000 families. Within it's borders are five synagoguues, as well the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County's elementary school.

  • George Snizek, 2008 East Coast Drag Times Hall of Famer (as driver of the Tasmanian Devil AA/A, AA/FA, CC/FD roadster and Top Fuel dragster) co-owner of Pacers Auto, Inc. aka "Snizek & Dodge Racing Team" as well as a Long Island Ladies Soccer Hall of Fame inductee in 2000 and an Eastern New York Soccer Hall of Fame inductee in 2005.
  • Kalomoira, popular Greek singer, was born in West Hempstead.
  • Dr. Roger C. Schlobin, (b. 1944). BA, MA, PhD. (Author, scholar, retired English professor). 1962 graduate of WH High School. One of the founders of the International Association for the Fantastic in the Arts, now in its thirty-third year. His The Literature of Fantasy is the definitive, annotated bibliography in the field. Local activities

  • The West Hempstead Chiefs Soccer Club, founded over 30 years ago has over 500 families registered for its current 2010–2011 season and fields teams at both the intramural level and competing in the LIJSL Travel division at the Girls and Boys Level.
