In 1993, South Wellfield Middle School (along with other schools) was threatened with closure by North Tyneside Council because the council said that it had too many surplus places. There followed a vigorous campaign by staff (led by Headteacher Jim Redhead), parents and pupils to keep the school open, which ended in 1994 when the school successfully applied to become one of the few grant-maintained school

Following this success, the school changed its name in September 1994 from South Wellfield Middle School to Wellfield Middle School (Grant-Maintained). When grant-maintained status was abolished, it became known simply as Wellfield Middle School.

Uniform

Wellfiled's uniform consist of a shirt (Long sleves or short sleves), black pants or a skirt with black tights or white socks (girls only
Also a jumper with the wellfield logo on. And a tie...tie must been wore correctly with top buttons done up. However in the summer the rules
may be slackened and polo shirts may be worn and the tie are abolished.
Flat black school shoes must been worn.

No make-up, jewellery mustn't be worn, apart from simple earring studs and a wristwatch if this is wished.

PE KIT

The PE kit i - a polo top with the schools logo, black shorts, white socks, traniers, for both genders. The girl may wear a gym skirt
if they wish too. In the winter terms tracksuit bottoms and rugby shirts or PE jumpers may be worn. Pupil will also need foot ball boots
and football sock for outdoor sports like football and rugby. Student must alway bring a towel to PE lesson too in case the wish to have
a shower after a lesson.

Lessons

Wellfield teaches all lessons that you would expect a school to such as maths,English and science along with a lots more.
The school offers pupils two languages. In every year of the school students will learn French then in year eight they will begin to
learn German/Spanish too.

Mobile Policy

At wellfield student are welcome to bring a mobile phone to school if the parents/carer wishes for them too. However phones
must be kept in lockers at all times and not used at any time during the school day. If caught with a phone pupils will
be given a detention.
