Wei Jianxing was born in Xinchang

Wei joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in March 1943. From 1947 to 1949 he studied in the High School Affiliated to Guanghua University in Shanghai. He later enrolled in Dalian University of Technology and graduated in 1952, majoring in mechanics. From 1952 to 1953, he studied Russian language in Fushun

In October 1992, Wei was elected a politburo member of 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, a secretary of central secretariat, and the secretary of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
