Wachusett (MBTA station)

Wachusett is a planned passenger rail station on MBTA Commuter Rail
's Fitchburg Line
, to be located northwest of the intersection of Massachusetts Route 2 and Route 31. When completed, it will serve as the northern terminus for Fitchburg Line trains.
The station will be the successor to an earlier Wachusett station which was served by the Fitchburg line in the 1980s.
On February 17, 2010, the US Department of Transportation awarded a $55.5m TIGER
grant for the project. The project will extend commuter rail service west from Downtown Fitchburg an additional 4.5 miles westward on the Pan Am Southern
railway corridor and will also include construction of a new station in the Wachusett area at the western edge of Fitchburg and a new layover facility in the town of Westminster.
A new parking facility with 286 spaces will be constructed, track and train control improvements will be made, and a separate track for boarding at the station will be included. Access to the parking lot and passenger
platform will be from Authority Drive.
Construction began in the first half of 2010, and is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2012.
