It was not until January of 1995, when the market got its first Fox affiliate, after WBAK-TV dropped the ABC affiliation it had since it signed on as WIIL-TV in 1973 to join Fox; that network had previously only been available through cable via either Indianapolis' WXIN
or now-defunct cable-only service Foxnet
. This left the Terre Haute area without an over-the-air ABC affiliate, which became available only via area cable providers through out-of-market stations from Indianapolis

This channel's history began when the main station created the subchannel to air a 24-hour simulcast of the station's doppler radar system, "Storm Team 10 Fury Doppler" with an audio feed from NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards
station WXK72. On October 25, 2010, the station replaced the radar/weather radio audio programming on digital subchannel
10.2 with TheCoolTV
, a digital multicast network featuring music video
s, as part of an affiliation agreement between the network and LIN TV to carry the network on the digital signals of many of their stations. However within days of the change, viewer feedback suggested the radar channel was appreciated, so WTHI chose to relaunch the Storm Team 10 Fury Doppler channel on digital channel 10.3 on November 5, 2010, while continuing to air programming from TheCoolTV on digital channel 10.2.
On June 28, 2011, Nexstar announced that channel 38 would end its affiliation with Fox after 16 years and rejoin ABC, as part of a deal which called for long-term affiliation renewals between Nexstar and ABC in nine other markets, and would change its call letters from WFXW to WAWV-TV (meaning ABC for the Wabash Valley) effective September 1, 2011. The move came after Nexstar was stripped of its Fox affiliations for WTVW

affiliate "WBI" on area cable providers). WTHI-DT2's secondary affiliation with MyNetworkTV gives the Terre Haute market its first television outlet for the programming service, as it has been one of the few markets without a MyNetworkTV affiliate since it launched in September 2006. The switch also saw Indianapolis

As a result of the new dual affiliations, WTHI will no longer carry programming from TheCoolTV, the only digital multicast network available in the Terre Haute market, on its digital signal. WTHI-DT2 runs Fox primetime programming from 8-10 p.m. ET/7-9 p.m. CT, and MyNetworkTV programming from 11 p.m.-1:00 a.m. ET/10 p.m.-12:00 a.m. CT. Along with Fox and MyNetworkTV programming, the subchannel converted to a general entertainment schedule. To preserve bandwidth for the MyFox10 channel on 10.2, on August 31, 2011, the live feed of Storm Team 10 Fury Radar was dropped once again as digital subchannel 10.3 was removed from WTHI's digital signal.
