 broadcasting a news-talk format. WJIM began broadcasting in 1934 on 1210 kHz with 250 watts daytime and 100 watts at night, under the ownership of Gross Telecasting. Then owner Harold Gross named the station after his son Jim, who would become the station's general manager from the 1960s through the sale of the station in 1985. In 1941 WJIM moved to 1240 kHz with 250 watts as a part of the North American Radio Broadcasting Agreement

From the early 90s to the fall of 2005, WJIM branded itself as News/Talk 1240 WJIM. It now brands itself as Lansing's BIG Talker. However, little has changed, aside from the morning show. Prior to 2005, Chris Holman hosted the show; now Holman works at 1320 AM and "The Big Show" is hosted by Michael Patrick Shiels
