. The parish has a population of 2997 in 2001, its density is 116 inhabitants/km² and a total area of 25.63 km². Vila do Porto is the southernmost and the easternmost town in the archipelago of Azores.

, the oldest parish in the Azores includes two areas: a zone below the Matriz Church, that conforms to the medieval roads and village, and a more recent area that has developed along new roadways over a plain (incorporating the Airport barrio) divided by two river-valleys (the São Francisco and Sancho).
