Biography

Victoria Koblenko (1980) was born and raised in Ukraine as an only child,. It was not until 1992 when she was 12 that she and her parents moved to the Netherlands. Settling down in a faraway Western European country with an entirely different atmosphere, culture and language was a formative experience in her life and very much served to broaden her horizons. Victoria adapted swiftly to life in her newly adopted country, learning to speak fluent Dutch. Attending a “gymnasium” ( college preparatory school) in the Netherlands, she also mastered English, German and French, plus classical Latin and Greek, while maintaining her command of the Russian and Ukrainian languages. At the age of 18, she began studying Political Science at Leiden University.

Although as a child Victoria never entertained the ambition of becoming an actress one day, she was featured in several TV commercials in her early teens. While in her freshman year at university, Victoria was offered the role of Isabella Kortenaer in the Netherlands’ most popular and longest-running TV drama series, “Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden

” (“Good Times, Bad Times”). Her five-year stint on the Mother of All Dutch Soap Operas made her a celebrity in the Netherlands. After a very successful run, and no longer confined by the all-consuming daily routine of a TV soap, Victoria is now free to pursue other avenues and further develop her many talents. Her first major film role was that of Marieke in the psychological thriller “When night falls.

Her first major film role was that of Marieke in the psychological thriller “When Night Falls” which earned her the Most Promising Actresses Award at the 2004 edition of the Dutch Film Festival. The film was also enthusiastically received at the European Film Festival in Tuscany.

In August 2005, Victoria was cast in the particularly challenging film “Dead End.” She also starred in the short film “American Dreams,”playing the Russian wife of Harvey Lee Oswald. The film was shown at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was named Best Short Film at the Hollywood Film Festival, which boosted her career even further. October 2006 saw the release of another film showcasing Victoria’s talents, the horror movie “Sl8n8.” After several guest appearances in the TV series “Van Speijk” and “Boks,” Victoria played Kim van Meegen in the 12-part Dutch drama series “Vuurzee” (“Sea of Fire”).

2008 brought a new dimension to Victoria's acting career. Drawing on her Eastern European background, she landed her first Russian-speaking role, namely in the TV series "Heritage". In 2009 she got her second Russian-speaking role in the TV series " Sisters," which will soon air on the 1st Channel in Russia.

In 2009 Victoria started shooting the first season Dutch TV drama series entitled “Bloedverwanten” (Blood Relatives). Victoria plays the role of Laura in this series which was first aired on AVRO in 2010.

In 2010 Victoria starred in an on-line fauxmentary called Nigel & Victoria. The series of 8 short episodes, broadcast on YouTube, Victoria played herself in a role of being an on-camera spokesperson. Victoria made her stage debut in September 2010 with the theatre play ‘Retour Hollandse Spoor’ from the National Theatre directed by Johan Doesburg.

Production of the TV film ‘Van God Los’ started March 2011. Victoria will be playing the part of Miranda. The film is being directed by David Lammers for the popular BNN network. Also, Victoria is currently shooting a second season Dutch TV drama series entitled “Bloedverwanten” (“Blood Relatives”)

Articulate and experienced far beyond her age, Victoria is very much in demand as a guest on Dutch talk shows and entertainment programs, among them “The Weakest Link” and “Celebrity Mole.” She keeps close tabs on global developments, writing a column for the daily newspaper “Trouw” and reporting on events in, for example, Uganda and Ukraine, where she also served as an election observer.

Away from the world of media, culture and entertainment, Victoria is just as active in an effort to “give back” to those less fortunate than her, particularly deprived children. She supports several humanitarian organizations, including Amnesty International and UNICEF. Victoria took her involvement one step further when she teamed up with Doctors Without Borders to produce a TV documentary about AIDS in her native Ukraine. Another case in point is her visit to the site of the Chernobyl Disaster, in her capacity of goodwill ambassador for a local organization. These days you’ll find Victoria working hard to raise awareness for the Millennium Development Goals.
