Vice-Chamberlain of the Household

The Vice-Chamberlain of the Household is usually a junior government whip
in the British House of Commons
and is an officer of the Royal Household
of the Sovereign
of the United Kingdom
. He or she is the Deputy to the Lord Chamberlain of the Household. The Vice-Chamberlain's main role is to compile a daily private report to the Queen on proceedings in the House of Commons. As a member of the Royal Household his or her duties are largely nominal, though ceremonial duties include accompanying the Queen and Royal Household at events such as the annual garden party at Buckingham Palace. The role also requires the holder to be held "captive" at Buckingham Palace when the Queen drives in procession to Westminster for the State opening of Parliament.
