The 158th Fighter Wing was formed in 1946. From 1989 to 1997, the wing was an Air Defense Unit, with aircraft on 5-minute alert, seven days a week, 24 hours a day located in South Burlington, Vermont. The Vermont Air National Guard is part of the State of Vermont Military Department. Staff consists of Military Title 10 and Title 32 Active Duty, Reserve, Federal Technicians, Traditional Guardsman, State Employees, Federal Civilian and contractor personnel. State Headquarters is at Camp Johnson in Colchester, Vermont.
