Usman Institute of Technology (or UIT) is a private higher education institute (HEI) in Karachi

Usman Institute is located on University Road in Karachi. Its surroundings include NED University
and the Institute of Industrial Electronics Engineering.
The regular faculty consists of 26 teachers, many of them with degrees from foreign universities.
Sadaat Alam CEO started as a businessman in India early in 20th century. When he settled in Pakistan he started a small business empire. Industrial concerns like Mehran Sugar Mills, Mogul Tobacco, Pakistan Molasses Company, Usman Textile were under his managerial control. His sons had a desire to do something for the welfare of the community. Among his sons was a student of Dr. Manzoor Ahmad
, a scholar and Dean of the Department of Philosophy at Karachi University. Usman was influenced by Dr. Manzoor's philosophy and shared his humanist values.
Usman died in 1973 in an accident. However, his father and brothers, wanting to keep his memory alive, decided to make Usman's dreams a reality. Following the advice of Usman’s mentor, Dr. Manzoor Ahmad
and with the patronage of lawyer and writer, late Mr. A.K. Brohi, the ‘Usman Memorial Foundation’ was founded. Mr. Brohi agreed to be the president and Dr. Manzoor Ahmad was requested to be General Secretary.
The Foundation organized lectures by scholars, established a library and offered research scholarships. The foundation acquired a piece of land on the University Road for the establishment of a technical education institute.
Eventually at the insistence of Mr. Haji Ebrahim Hashim and with the financial assistance of the family, the Usman Institute of Technology was launched. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad, the mentor of Usman was requested to be the Life Chairman of the institute.
Students go on internships/work terms in Karachi, and final year students do projects in the industries of Karachi and thus create strong university-industry relationships.

This is in keeping with UIT's constituent-institute status with respect to the degree granting institution, Hamdard University

The campus facilities have two major sections:
The UIT campus has classrooms, engineering labs and a library. University computing is supported by four Information Processing Centres having over 292 workstations. A Local Area Network is operational for resource sharing and efficient computing.
The society has established an R&D department to discover the problems facing local IT industries and find possible solutions.
In March 2006, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) officially chartered UITCS as a Student Chapter, so UITCS was renamed UITCS ACM Student Chapter. ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, is an educational and scientific society uniting the world's computing educators, researchers and professionals.

UIT had its genesis due to an endowment from the Hashim family of the Memon community in remembrance of Usman Hashim, son of Haji Hashim, a tycoon and a philanthropist.Sadaat Alam CEO started as a businessman in India early in 20th century. UITCS ACM Student Chapter
The UIT Computer Society (UITCS) is a group of undergraduate students dedicated to develop the interest of people in computing and information technologies. UITCS activities include poster sessions, seminars, workshops and competitions.The society has established an R&D department to discover the problems facing local IT industries and find possible solutions.

UTECH
UTECH is a software competition in Pakistan. UTECH 2009 was organized at Abul-Hasan Isphani Road, Karachi. It was one of the largest information technology event of Pakistan with contests and exhibitions of software from all over the country and the neighboring countries of South Asia. It includes a Software Competition, Dynamic Programming Contest with the collaboration of ACM's NUCES Chapter, Kids Corner (where students from Grade School display their ideas), G3n.
