The school building was unimpressive, built amidst sprawling muddy grounds and bordered by cane fields of adjoining lands.
During the school year 1952-1953, the parents requested for the opening of the high school department. On February 9, 1952, cement footings were poured for the first high school wing.

In the 1960s La Salle College-Bacolod expanded from grade school to college. This was made possible through donations by alumni, parents and benefactors. The school became co-educational in 1966.
Since 1986, La Salle has accepted as part of its cliente, Kinder and Prep girls. It was not until 1987, however, that the Board of Trustees officially handed its own decision to turn coed the grade school and the high school. The inclusion of girls in in the once exclusive for boys has not drastically changed the school's mission statement.
On July 5, 1988, La Salle College-Bacolod was formally elevated to university status and christened University of St. La Salle during rites graced by then Honorable Secretary of Education Lourdes Quisumbing.
In 2002, both elementary and high school levels were granted their 4th accreditation status by PAASCU.
The school has constantly evaluated and revised its curriculum to meet the minimum requirements of the 2002 Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) and even beyond the minimum requirements. The schools follows the separate subject teaching mode as provided by the BEC. The curriculum is also designed to achieve the school's vision-mission which is college preparatory, wholistic formation of students and academic excellence.
