. From 1969 to 1994 the town was called Svobodny-18 and was established in order to serve the nearby ICBM base of the Soviet Armed Forces

. The town took its name from a town called Svobodny and lies 50 km south of it, in order to confuse foreign-intelligence. Population: The town contains 33 blocks of residential homes, the boiler room. Gas economy is absent. There is a middle school, children's arts school, two kindergartens and a hospital.
