This train has been numbered as 16529/16530 and hence falls under the South Western Railways with its maintenance being performed at Bangalore. The train has good housekeeping services on board due to which trained personnel clean the compartments at regular intervals.

The train has been named as the "Udyan Express" since Bangalore is a green city. The word "Udyan" means a garden in Sanskrit, Hindi and Marathi. It is aptly named as the Udyan Express since Bangalore is known to be dotted with many public and private gardens.

 and Lonavla, which are also known as the Bhore Ghats during the day in both directions. The Mumbai--Bangalore Udyan Express also passes through the illustrious Makalidurga Ghats in Karnataka, which is marked by sharp curves.

Locomotive

The Udyan Express, being one of the important trains of the South Western Railway, is generally hauled by a single WDP4 or WDP4B, one of the most prestigious Indian Railway locomotives which are presently homed at Krishnarajapuram, a suburb of Bangalore. In the absence of either of the locomotives, the train is hauled by a pair of twin WDG3As.

Coach Composition

In the conventional sense, the Udyan Express is one of the regular trains which comply to the 21 coach train formula. The train is composed of 1 composite coach namely where a few bays are designated as the 1A (First Class AC) in which 18 passengers can travel comfortably. The remaining half of the compartment is used as the AC 2 Tier compartment. The train also has 2 AC 2 Tier compartments which have sleeping berths, ample leg room, curtains and individual reading lamps, 3 AC 3 Tier compartments which have sleeping berths and are slightly less well-appointed. The train finally has 11 Sleeper Class compartments, which are the most common compartments. Due to a constant rush in this train, there is an Second Class Unreserved compartment attached at the end of the train at Solapur till Bangalore.

Timings

The 16529 (Down) Mumbai--Bangalore Udyan Express departs Mumbai CST at 08:00 a.m. and reaches Bangalore City at 08:50 a.m. the next day. The Udyan Express is a nice train to observe the crowded commuter trains of Mumbai during the morning rush hours and to explore the hinterlands of rural Maharashtra and Karnataka. Similarly, the train returns as the 16530 (Up) Bangalore--Mumbai Udyan Express which leaves Bangalore City at 20:10 p.m. and reaches Mumbai CST at 19:50 p.m. the next day. The train is known reliability despite the large number of halts in comparison with other important trains on the Solapur
