Defiance was laid down as PGM-95 by Peterson Builders, on 3 October 1967. She was commissioned as PG-95 on 24 September 1969.

Decommissioned on 11 June 1973, she was transferred to Turkey and renamed Yildirim (P-338). She was destroyed by an explosion and fire on 11 April 1985. .
