. The school of architecture was one of the founding schools of UNSW. The faculty is headquartered in the Red Centre (West Wing), a futuristic building designed by MGT Architects, located on the Kensington Campus, approximately 5 kilometers from Sydney's CBD

Built Environment offers a comprehensive range of specialised degree programs that few universities can match. Seven undergraduate programs are offered and, as part of the internationally acclaimed faculty. Each degree program is regarded as one of Australia's leading university qualifications.

Undergraduate programs

Architectural Computing
The Bachelor of Architectural Computing is primarily a design based and idea driven degree, whereby students acquire skills across a wide range of digital technologies, in order to approach and tackle complex issues.
The degrees main focus is to educate students to move freely between emerging technologies, strategically manipulating complex data and ideas in order to improve design processes and facilitate the highest quality res.
Each component of the course equips students with a range of capabilities. Computer centric courses build on disciplinary knowledge and learning skills, architecture courses in design, technology, history and theory work to expand a student’s understanding of context, ethics and information literacy.

Architectural Studies
The Bachelor of Architectural Studies, is a world class program, currently holding the highest UAI ranking in Australia. The program provides students with knowledge and skills in design, communication and technology, while also providing them with a strong understanding of the history and theory of architecture. The program is both practical and theoretical, providing students an understanding of the real life industry, whereby their work is critiqued and questioned by a panel of professionals within the field.

 and Property (BCMP) at Built Environment equips graduates with management skills such as planning, occupational health and safety, risk assessment, property management and organizational behavior. The key focus of the program is on people and process management in the specific contexts of building construction , property development, quantity surveying and facilities management.

Industrial Design
The Bachelor of Industrial Design (BindDes) is designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to prepare them for the real world. Students will develop core design skills such as sketching and technical drawings, rendering, computer model making, concept generation and presentations as well as safe workshop practices. These skills are then combined with more theoretical skills such as ergonomics, consumer behavior, marketing and communication; provide students with a broad knowledge and wider perspective needed in order to achieve effective design solutions.

Interior Architecture
The Bachelor of Interior Architecture is the leading degree for formulating strong design skills by active learning and participations. The program is the first of its kind in Australia and adopts a practical approach whereby students can acquire the necessary skills to deal with design problems effective in the real world.

Landscape Architecture

 was the first of its kind to be developed in Australia. The program utilises modern teaching methods and applies them to the learning of design principles, graphic techniques and studies on ecological processes and human modification on the environment. The creative design of the program produces graduates that are able to work in a global environment. What differntiates this program from others is the compulsory four month work experience of working with professionally recognised landscape architects, which allows students with a practical basis that compliments their theoretical understanding.

Planning
The Bachelor of Planning program offered within the Built Environment faculty equips graduates with the necessary skills that are essential for the practising of planning. The focus is on the changing nature of the built environment with a particular emphasis on the imagination of new ways to shape it. The program includes the completion of a major thesis to allow students to focus their studies on a topic of particular interest to them. The program also includes manadatory practical work experience wherein students undertake full-time paid work in order to give them a real world focus. The program continues to remain one of Australia's most respected degrees in architectural planning.

Postgraduate Degree program

The Faculty of Built Environment offers students the chance to further qualify themselves by undertaking further study in completing a masters program:

Architecture
The Masters Program in Architecture is a two year program that allows students to be able to be recognised as architects. The program was designed to focus on creative thinking and equip graduates with the necessary knowledge to inspire change in the profession and design. The program is taught by leading internationally recognised academics and known architects who are prominent in the industry.

Real Estate/Property and Development
The Master of Property and Development (MPD) program runs for three academic semesters and is designed to equip postgraduate students with the necessary skills to provide business solutions and sustainable communities. Each course is designed to extend each students imagination and capabilities.
In response to the rapid changes in the field of property, the program offers three choices the General Master of Property and Development, Investment and Development, Asset and Facilities Management.

Planning

The Master of Planning degree equips students with core knowledge, training and key skills required by qualified planners. It also provides students with the opportunity to concentrate their studies in one of four particular fields: Environmental Sustainability; Urban Management and Governance; Urban Design; or Urban Modelling.

The content of the MPlan degree is wide ranging, exposing students to many different fields of knowledge and paths to understanding as required by a diverse, contemporary urban society.
