History

Since 1910, there had been several Filipino American student organizations at the University of Southern California. These clubs include Pilipino Trojan Family, Troy Family and the Philippine Circle by the late 1960s. In the 1970s, Philippine Circle became very involved with Philippine politics, speaking against the Marcos regime and was actually banned by the Philippine government. Many Filipinos and Filipino-Americans at USC did want to be involved with the politics and decided to take the Filipino-American organization on a different path, thus creating Troy Philippines. This association eventually became a member of the school's International Student Assembly, later recognized as an Asian American organization, and became a part of the University of Southern California's Asian American Student Assembly in 1989.

During the late 1980s, the club started its tradition of holding cultural nights, starting in 1988 with The First Wave, which was based upon the experiences of Filipino farm laborers in Delano, CA. The club also helped found the Southern California Pilipino American Student Association (SCPASA)http://www.angelfire.com/ca/scpasa/.

As for Troy Phi's recent history, the club has progressed over the past years. Membership has increased, the club's Pilipino-American Culture Nights have been phenomenal, there is an increased participation in community involvement, and had been able to win two Friendship Games titles, 1st and 2nd place.
