The Toyota Comfort, released in 1995, was designed for use as a taxicab
in Japan. Its primary competitor was the Nissan Crew
(discontinued in June 2009) and its secondary competitor was the Cedric Y31
. A long-wheelbase version, called Toyota Crown Comfort is available in Japan and it was also exported to Hong Kong and Singapore.
The Crown Comfort is popular among taxicabs in Japan and Hong Kong. It uses a rear-wheel drivetrain. Some versions can be licenced to carry 5 passengers (excluding the driver). The six-seater version uses column gearchange whereas the five-seater version can either have column or floor gearchange. The Japanese model has fender mirrors and an automatic (driver-activated) rear door (also standard in Hong Kong). The Comfort is also used as an instructional vehicle for people learning how to drive.
Since 2005, Toyota has sold 36,400 Comforts. The car is popular with taxi companies and driving schools in Japan. Currently, it is also sold in Hong Kong, mainly as taxi. In 2010, the car is named by Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota, winner of the “President’s Prize”, an internal, semi-official award of Toyota. The Company explained: “The car itself is unspectacular but it is very important to Toyota. This is why Morizo chose the car for the first ‘Morizo award,’... the car can be driven over the years by everybody from beginners to experts. And this is the proof that the car is the symbol of Toyota’s quality, durability and reliability”. Morizo is the driver name and blogging alter ego adopted by Mr. Toyoda, a motor sports enthusiast.
The Crown Comfort uses a 1,998 cc 1TR-FPE engine with 83 kW at 4,800 rpm on LPG.
YXS10/LXS10
The YXS10/LXS10 was the first vehicle to be badged as the Comfort. The car (LPG version) was released in 2001. The main differences are that the YXS10 has an extra seat in the front, thus being able to carry 5 passengers (driver excluded). It also boasted automatic doors and a 4-speed automatic transmission became standard in 2004.
YXS11
The YXS11 was released in late 2007 as a successor to the YSX10. New features of the YSX11 included elongated rearlights and a newly designed roof sign. The new model also boasts more stringent emission standards set by Toyota Japan and utilizes more LED lights.
Two trim levels: Base and Deluxe. 15-in wheels, ABS

, Stop&Start-system, driver air bag, three-point seatbelts, air con, a radio and power steering are standard in the base model. Electric mirrors goes to Deluxe. In Deluxe you can also specify central locking.
Comfort GT-Z Supercharger was a limited edition sports model made in 2003. Total production of this version was 59.
This car had a 3S-FE type DOHC 2.0 L L4 ORC-TX07 supercharged gasoline engine.
Maximum power is 160 PS at 6100 rpm.
Maximum torque is 22.5 kgm at 3300 rpm.

Equipment
To reduce unnecessary cost, weight and increase interior space (with emphasis on rear cabin space), the more luxurious dashboard and fitments (including leather seats) of the Crown Royal were replaced with less bulky all-plastic parts with very simple designs.
