. She is regarded as perhaps the first Icelander to make a living as an author. She published her first short story in Framfari—the first Icelandic newspaper published in North America—in 1879. Her first novel, Brynjolfur Sveinsson, was noted as both the first novel and first female author to be formally printed in Iceland.
