in February 1999 and assumed office the following July. He is the first alumnus from the college (class of 1971) to be named its president.
Prior to his academic appointment at King’s, Father O’Hara assisted in relief work with the Missionary Sisters of Charity, the religious community of the late Mother Teresa

He is a member of the boards of directors of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry, the Diamond City Partnership, CityVest, St. Vincent De Paul Kitchen, King’s/St. Mary’s Developmental Day Care Center, Healthy Northeast Pennsylvania. In addition, Father O’Hara holds membership on the Board of Trustees of Stonehill College

Father O’Hara has received several professional awards, including the Exemplar Award from the University of Notre Dame
Alumni Association, the New York State Award for Dedication to Youth, and the King’s College All College Awards for both administrators and faculty.
In September 2010, Rev. Thomas O'Hara announced that he will be stepping down as president of King's College. O'Hara concluded his 12-year term as president on June 30, 2011. He plans to return to the classroom as a full-time political science professor at the college.
