"This Is the New Shit" is the second single of Marilyn Manson's
album The Golden Age of Grotesque
. It has several new industrial beats that Tim Sköld
added when he joined the band as the bassist in 2002. It was the most successful song from The Golden Age of Grotesque following mOBSCENE
. The UK release features the band's cover of The Geto Boys' "Mind of a Lunatic." British band Goldfrapp
created a remix of the song in 2003 called Marilyn Manson vs Goldfrapp. This featured as the second track on the UK release of "This Is the New Shit", the CD also contained the video for the single.
For its music video counterpart, an alternate recording was used with the lyrics "This is the new 'hit'" and the song title reading "This Is the New Shit". The word, "Motherfuckers", is replaced by some jumpy beat noises.
This song was featured in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
titled "Suckers". It was also included on the soundtrack for the film, The Matrix Reloaded
, and used in the film, Hatchet
. It was used in several trailers for Bioware
's 2009 RPG Dragon Age: Origins
.
Between July 10 and August 7, 2007, the radio edit
