History

The mall opened in 1979 as the Mission Viejo Mall, anchored by Bullock's

. In the year 2000, it underwent a $150 million renovation and expansion that brought many new retailers, including Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue. There are also upscale stores like Coach, Disney, Swarovski Apple, Tommy Bahama, True Religion, Microsoft, Macy's Mens and Women's, William Sonoma, Zara, & Pottery Barn. It was during this renovation where the mall adopted its current name. In addition to renovating and expanding, Simon Malls signed 10-year leases with many stores to secure its investment.

Guest Services

There are a multitude of services offered by the Shops at Mission Viejo. There is a lost and found, strollers and wheel chairs for rent, and maternity parking. The whole mall is wired with wireless internet for users with a WiFi capable laptop, phone or PDA. There is also a Kids Soft Play Area, sponsored by Choc Children's, for young kids. For babies and toddlers, there is a baby changing station called the Lullaby Lounge. This lounge serves as a private living room for parents to feed, change, and relax from shopping.

Capistrano Unified School District Fresh Start Independent Study Program

The Fresh Start program assists students from throughout the Capistrano Unified School District in completing the academic requirements for a high school diploma. Students are tutored one on one in addition to having an individualized program created for them that meets their diverse needs. Students are able to enroll concurrently at their home comprehensive high school for up to two courses. To further ensure their success, Fresh Start students are supported by Academic Advisors and other support staff from their home high schools. Fresh Start is located in the Dining Veranda, level two and is open Monday through Friday 7:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Security Services

The Shops at Mission Viejo has its own security staff as well. The security staff patrols the parking lots in addition to the interior mall.

Mon to Fri: 10:00am – 9:00pm

Sat: 10:00am – 7:00pm

Sun: 11:00am – 6:00pm

Restaurant, cinema, and store hours may differ from mall hours.

Closed on Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
