The paper's self proclaimed mission is: "to defend the liberal values and egalitarian traditions we believe in, and which deserve to be upheld in writing that is both informative and insightful". The newspaper covers a variety of topics ranging from politics to the economy, foreign policy to investment and sports to culture.

The newspaper is published in the three major cities in Pakistan: Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. The paper launched on April 12, 2010 in Karachi under the banner of Century Publications Private Limited which is a part of the Lakson Group of companies.

The publisher of The Express Tribune is Bilal Ali Lakhani, son of Sultan A. Lakhani. The managing editor of the paper is Muhammad Ziauddin, a senior journalist previously associated with Dawn. The editor is Kamal Siddiqi who was previously associated with The News.

The Express Tribune is available online via Epaper and through a live website which includes news and blogs. The print edition is available through hawker, via subscription or at news stands. The print edition includes a six day a week copy of the Asia edition of the International Herald Tribune, the global edition of the New York Times.

On Sunday The Express Tribune' also includes a glossy magazine which runs social commentary and interviews and a four page supplement which includes recipes, reviews, travel advice, blogs and technology reviews.

The Express Tribune is a supporter of The Citizens Foundation
