Thaksin university is the juristic body under the responsibility of the Office of the Higher Education Commission.Currently, Associate Professor Doctor Somkiat Saithanoo hold the position of University President.

History

Thaksin University began with deciding to establish branch campus in the regions of the country of the College of Education then It was established as College of Education, Songkhla on October 1st,1968. On June 29th,1974 the status of College of Education, Songkhla was upgraded to become a regional campus of Srinakharinwirot University

 called “Srinakharinwirot University,Songkhla Campus” and commenced a four-year degree program, over time they steadily expanded the programmes offered.

In 1989, the University laid out a project to expand to a new campus in Phattalung with the purpose of following a development plan and so new faculties could be established in the future because the original areas have only 142 rai (approximately 56 acres). It was not enough to set up the new faculties and develop in the future. Thaksin University got donate a plot of land totaling 3,500 rai from Phattalung Province at Tambon Ban Plao, Pa Payom District, Phattalung Province, which was a new area to be a new campus. Eventually, Srinakharinwirot University, Songkhla Campus was renamed as “Srinakharinwirot University, Southern Campus” in this year.

In order to continue the natural development and effective management of the University. eventually, in 1996 the parliament passed the Thaksin University Act, which became effective on September 1st of that year and became as an independent university named “Thaksin University”. The name of university means “The University of the South”

In 2011, Thaksin University was changed the establishment day from September 1st to October 1st because it was the establishment day of College of Education, Songkhla.

Phattalung campus


Phattalung campus has two operational sites;
The one at Tambon Ban Plao. Pa Payom District occupying an area of about 3,500 rai (approx. 1,400 acres) where the faculties, college and official units are located.
The another at Tambon Phanangtung, Khuan Khanun District on 1,500 rai (approx. 600 acres) where College of community wisdom is located

The Crown represents The 50th Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty's Accession to the Throne.
The Three Textbooks represent intellect, morality and development.
The Name, Thaksin University, means ‘The University of the South’.


The Symbolic Flower
The Symbolic Flower of Thaksin University is the ‘parichart’ flower (Erythrina indica lank) which is commonly believed to be a flower growing in the Garden of Lord Indra.
Parichart, also known asTonglan, begins to bud in mid-February and is in full bloom by the end of the month which coincides with the students’ completion of studies.


University Colours
Gray is the color of brain thus signifying thought.
Blue is the color of the sea and the sky signifying vast expanse.
Gray and Blue, therefore, means to think broadly or to think with vision.
