Teshie

Teshie is a city in Ghana
in the Greater Accra Region
. Fort Augustaborg, built by the Danes in 1787, is located in Teshie and was occupied by the British from 1850 to 1957. The national Officer Cadet Training School and Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre
(KAIPTC) are also located here. It is believed that Teshie is 300 years in 2011.
The Teshie people are well known for their straight forward attitude and are hospitable to all races and backgrounds. The language of
Teshie is Ga. The city is rich in diversity as a result of the country's current democracy and development program. Every August the city celebrates the Homowo festival.
The people of Teshie are proud people and pride themselves that they are always stronger than their next neighbours; Nungua (on the East) and better than La (on the West). Teshie people would do everything possible to hold to these past dominances. Sometimes to the town's on detriment.
Until recently, there have been no government developments in Teshie, like a Hospital and road expansions. Previously, anything that would change the way of life of the people, irrespective of its important was resisted. Notable among them was widening of the dual carriage way from OTU Barracks to First Junction since late 1970s. The pretext was that vehicular traffic as well as speeding vehicles could kill its people and children crossing over. No government has been forcefully on the Teshie people. The LMC of Kutu Acheapong was taken to the washers during a Homowo festival in their folklore songs ( these are music that is sung to demonstrate acceptance, tell happenings and scorn the authorities both across all spectrum), AFRC/PNDC/NDC tried to no avail. The NPP was considered and Akan government was never given a chance. Perhaps, NDC III has learnt its lesson to be given a chance with current development in Teshie to the envy of her Nungua folks.
The city of Teshie is also known as the home of famous design coffins, invented in the 50's by Seth Kane Kwei and still made in the Kane Kwei Carpentry Workshop

) and by several other artists including Daniel Mensah ("Hello").
There are few Missionary schools that have been in Teshie as long as any could remember. Schools like Teshie Roman Catholic, Methodist School, Teshie Presby Schools and Teshie Anglican.
The last Chief of the people of Teshie was Mantse Ashitey Akronfrah. Who died late 1980s. There has not been a substantial chief until today.
Teshie stretches from the Kpeshie Lagoon to Teshie-Nungua Estates(first junction) from East to West on the Teshie Road. Teshie town has grown enormously to become a one of the biggest town in Ghana.
There are 7 clans(Akutsei) in Teshie.
It is believed that few people have made an attempt to revive the institution of Cheiftaincy in Teshie, but the most notorious amongst them is Amarh Gideon. Who became fearsome and retarded any attempt to bring this effort to light of day. The people of Teshie are now so fractured that no body knows which of the & Akutsei has the mandate to nominate a successor to the late Ashietey Akromfra.
Many well-meaning as well as ordinary people have become so disillusioned that the chieftaincy institution(a collective body that the people derives their authority and leadership) is weakened.
With the town's population nearing 200,000(7th biggest town in Ghana)and still growing, the purposeful thing to do is to find a new trend of governance which the Kpeshie sub-division has taken up.
On the 3rd Centenary celebrations; activities have been line-up to celebrate this important mile-stone in the life of the this great City.
