Telekom Baskets Bonn was founded in the year 1992 when the German clubs of Godesberger TV (GTV) and SC Fortuna Bonn merged together to form the club of BG Bonn 92. The club then became known as Telekom Baskets Bonn in 1995, when the club's name was changed after it became sponsored by the German telecommunications company Deutsche Telekom
