History

It was formerly known as "The New Carlisle-Bethel Local Schools" But was changed in 1989 prior to the 1989/1990 school year. The change arose from confusion between that district, Bethel Local Schools in nearby Miami County

Below are the names of the old buildings, the year they were built and their current status:

1. Westlake Elementary- 1964 and 1969 expansion - Demolished, 2007

2. Park Layne Elementary- 1964 - Demolished, 2007

3. McAdams Elementary, later McAdams Early Learning Center Kindergarten- 1969- Demolished, 2006 (Note: When demolished in 2006 all the buildings kindergarten classes moved to the 4 elementary schools, including the teachers.)

4. Donnelsville Elementary- 1928- Demolished, 2006

5. Medway Elementary- 1928- Demolished, 2006

6. Oscar T. Hawk Elementary School- 1964- Demolished, 2007 (Note: Oscar T. Hawk Elementary Closed in 1981 and the building became part of Tecumseh High School.)

7. New Carlisle Middle School*- 1966- Demolished, 2007

8. Olive Branch Middle School* - 1928- Demolished, 2007
9. Tecumseh High School

- Original Building opened in 1954. Additions were added in 1964 and 1969. In 2007, the building was demolished with the exception of the portion of the 1969 expansion that included the auditorium and field house. A new school building was built attached to the rear of the remaining 1969 portion.

10. New Carlisle Elementary School- 1921 and 1957 expansion- Closed 1981- Empty (Currently owned by the city of New Carlisle)

11. Olive Branch High School

-History:In 1878, the Legislature of Ohio passed a law authorizing township Boards of Education to establish a school of higher grade than a common school...

- 1900- Closed 1928- Used for one year as an over-flow elementary school in 1961 due to over-crowding of the post World War II Baby Boom. The building is currently empty and was saved from being demolished in 2006 by being placed on the National Register of Historic Places. There are plans to make it a museum.
  • Both these buildings were junior high schools (grades 7-9) and changed to the middle school format (grades 6-9) in the fall of 1981.
