Sully Diaz
Encyclopedia
Sully Diaz is an American
actress and singer born to Christian, Puerto Rican parents. Sully's career started in Puerto Rican television with her first starring role as Coralito in the "novela" called "Coralito". Although this was her first starring role, "Coralito" broke all audience records and made her known as one of the most important actresses on Hispanic television in the United States, Puerto Rico and Latin America. Because of this acclaim, Sully was invited to star in various soap operas in Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Argentina.
Sully later returned to New York to study at the Actors Studio, Hebert Berghoff Studio and Ann Reinken Steps Studio. Immediately, Sully started working on "Off-Broadway" and the prestigious Public Theatre, where she received magnificent reviews in the NY Times, NY Post and the Daily News.
Sully has also participated on American televisions series as "Law & Order" (ABC), "Legworks" (CBS).
Her next professional venture was Stand-Up Comedy, and once again, she was very acclaimed and requested. Presenting her live stand-up comedy shows in popular venues, Sully has been seen at the "The Improv" LA, "The Improv" Miami, "Laugh Factory" LA, "The Comedy Store" LA, "Conga Room" LA, Bongos Restaurant - Miami, "Harras" - Las Vegas, amongst others.
In June 2001, Sully broke all records with sold out performances on Off-Broadway with "La Lupe: Mi Vida, Mi Destino - The Musical" by Carmen Rivera. With over 120 live performances, Sully demonstrated once again that she is a multifaceted entertainer by bringing to life the famous, Cuban singer La Lupe. Few actresses have dared to portray La Lupe's wild, energized songs, but Sully received standing ovations and excellent reviews in Hispanic and American newspapers, winning an ACE and HOLA award for best starring actress. She was also nominated for the "Off-Broadway" Award.
In April 2002, Sully returned to Puerto Rico where she starred in "La Reina, La Lupe - El Musical" by Rafael Albertori. Having sold out presentations and the public requesting more, Sully has toured around the United States with this musical, where she sings 14 original Lupe songs. The audience goes crazy singing, dancing, crying, laughing and reliving the legend that was once La Lupe.
On the big screen, Sully has been seen in movies like "True Believer" with Robert Downing Jr., "Old Man and the Sea" with Anthony Quinn, "Yellow" with Rosalyn Sanchez, and most recently, "Princess Protection Program" with Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.
Sully is also a professional chef.
