Strassen was formed on 1 January 1850, when it was detached from the commune of Bertrange

. The law forming Strassen was passed on the 6 August 1849.
The current mayor of Strassen is Gaston Greiveldinger (LSAP socialists), but in Otctober 2011 there will be the municipal elections (every 6 years).
We note first that the prehistory of the town of Strassen comes from the Roman times the Latin "strata" which means military road. In that time, the Roman road leading from Trier through Arlon Strassen and Mamer up. Remains were found in 1960 during the widening of the Kiem Street.
The seal of Johann Strassen (1411) and piety dating from 1500 (currently on display at the National Museum of the State), provided the basis for the municipal coat of arms created in 1976 and whose description is hieratic "Cloche d'or ".

Strassen in 1804, with some houses in Reckenthal, became a parish. In 1823 the town of Strassen unites with Bertrange, but by the law of August 6, 1849, Strassen was again separated from Bertrange with effect from 1 January 1850. Thus it formed a separate municipality with Reckenthal. At that time, there were 1300 habitants.

At that time, some Luxembourghish began to emigrate to the United States, part of which came from Strassen.

In 1854 the national poet Michel Rodange married a citizen of Strassen Leysen Magdalene and they moved to Fels and he served as a teacher.

The first water main was laid in 1908.

For a whole century, the population did not change much. Strassen in 1946 had 1400 citizens and 332 houses. In 1960 there were 1900 habitants and 20 years later 4200. On 1 January 1997 there were 7500 habitants Strassen (2011) composed of 58 different nationalities and the emigration rate was 47%.
Economy:

Strassen is a small town compared to others in Luxembourg city, but very modern. In the town there are numerous banks and insurances (Dexia, ING, BGL BNP Paribas, Raiffeisen, KBL, Vivium, Garanti Bank, etc. ...).
In Strassen many new quarters will be built (very modern), this is due to the strong increase of population, of course, property prices are very expensive.

As in any other town in Luxembourg, Strassen has his private aquatic center (built in October 2009) named "Les Thermes", with a total cost of 37.000.000€.
There is also a national center of archery and a fitness center.
Transport:

Like everywhere else in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, transport in common are very effective and fast, there are buses (ecological hybrids) that connect to Luxembourg City in 15 minutes.
Strassen has provided for his young citizens, a city night shuttle bus.

In the municipal area, there are 4 schools, all modern and well equipped.
In primary school, students lessons are in the three official languages ​​of the country, the primary in Luxembourghish and the secondary in German (even the Gouvernement is thinking about changing the secondary cycle in French) while studying as a second and third in French and English.
