Flood

There have been two major floods in this area; in 1991, and the most recent occurring in August, 2007. In the 2007 flood, the area received more than two feet of rain during one week; seventeen inches within the twenty-four hours preceding the flooding of both creeks. The extent of the damage required the National Guard to come and help provide initial security and emergency clean up. City residents and volunteers from as far as Idaho, Texas, California, and Alabama quickly addressed the immediate clean up and served as a positive example for the entire region. Despite some semblance of recovery within two weeks, many houses were damage beyond the point of repair and efforts are still underway to help the homeless.
