Steven Spurrier was a British artist and painter.
After his apprenticeship to his silversmith father, Spurrier studied art and became a freelance magazine illustrator. His work appeared in magazines such as The Graphic

. He also produced posters for theatrical productions and illustrated books. He also painted and was exhibited at the Royal Academy
from 1913, his subjects included circus performers. During the First World War

, but Ransome did not like the illustrations which were not used except for the dust jacket and map. Later editions had illustrations by Clifford Webb
