 in 2000. He has continued to play for the Knights in every season since they joined the league in 2000. In 2005 he recorded his best season in terms of points finishing the regular season with seven goals and nine assists. Following the 2005 season his points per season has been dropping with seven in the following season and down to his lowest record in 2009 with just three points. In 2011 Deans competed in only eleven of the 28 regular season games and failed to record any points.

Deans was first called up to represent Australia in 2000 where he joined the national under-18 team to compete in the 2000 IIHF Asian Oceanic Junior U18 Championship being held in Changchun City, China

The following year Deans was again called up to national under-20 team to compete in the 2001 IIHF World U20 Championship Division III tournament. Australia finished last and were relegated to Division III qualification tournament for 2002. Deans improved on his previous years performance scoring three goals and one assist in his four games. In 2002 Deans moved up to the national senior team to compete in the 2002 IIHF World Championship Division II Group A tournament being held in Cape Town
