Staraya Kupavna is a town in Moscow Oblast

The village (literally "settlement of town type") of Kupavna was first mentioned in the 14th century. Kupavna has had town status since 2004.
The Holy trinity church built in 1751 has recently been reopened after being closed in Soviet times. There is a large textile factory in the town. The nearest station, Kupavna station, is 9 km away with trains to Moscow and Vladimir. Local busses link the town to Moscow, Noginsk and Monino
On November 23, 2009 the former mayor of Staraya Kupavna, Anatoly Pleshan was convicted of taking a bribe (for assisting a developer with getting an approval from the residents for construction of a high-rise condo) and sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Weekly newspaper "Staraya Kupvna" was first published in 1998. Since 2004 "Alternative newspaper" is being issued. During 2004-2006 it was printed in more than 10 000 copies. In 2008 newspaper "Molodaya Kupavna" (literally Young Kupavna) was first issued and TV channel Staraya Kupavna opened.
As of 2010 there are three secondary schools, school-internat, evening school, lyceum, music school, infants house, choreographic school "Iris", Sunday school by Svyato-Troitsky church (The Holy trinity church), College of Technology and Management in the town.

Culture
There is a cultural centre "Akrikhin" (named after local pharmaceutical producer Akrihin). Different events like celebration of New Year and Maslenitsa (waving goodbye to winters with pancakes, dances and burning a strawman) are used to be held in the front of the building as the main meeting point for locals.Weekly newspaper "Staraya Kupvna" was first published in 1998. Transport
Transport network between Staraya Kupavna and Moscow includes buses and railway. Railway station Kupavna is located on line Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod 9 km far from the town. The way to Moscow metro station Partizanskaya by bus (#444) will take from 40 minutes to 2 hours depending on the traffic jams. It takes 21-26 minutes to get to Moscow metro station Novogireevo by train and 32-37 minutes to moscow metro station Ploschad Ilyicha.There are also buses to Noginsk and Monino.
