 circa 1864. The club is notable as it is one of the earliest Australian rules football clubs and formed part of the famous St Kilda Football Club, having merged in 1873 with St Kilda Cricketers.

A team from South Yarra continued to play in the Victorian Junior Football Association from 1874.

In 1982, the South Yarra Presbyterian Football Club renamed itself to the South Yarra Football Club, however the two clubs are not the same and there is no continuous history.
