The station also houses the Metro Control Centre, located on platform 2 and on the site of the former station buildings.

History

The station was originally opened in 1864 as Gosforth station and was later renamed to South Gosforth in 1905. This was due to the opening of the West Gosforth station, located near to the modern Regent Centre.
