South Australian Lotteries is a publicly owned company. All profits are diverted to the South Australian government. This could be seen as an advantage, providing an extra source of revenue for the government and greater community. It can also be argued that a state owned lottery monopoly

Others would claim it is inappropriate for a government to be involved in a gambling organisation; which are always subject to controversy.
