Environmental Pollution

Sorrento Lactilis Inc. was fined $315,000 by the Justice Department for exceeding the allowable pollutant discharge limits from its Nampa, Idaho factory into Mason Creek, a tributary of the Boise River. Sorrento's pollutant discharge levels violated the terms of their wastewater permit between 2005 and 2008. In assessing the financial penalty, the DOJ noted that in addition to exceeding permitted pollutant discharge levels, Sorrento repeatedly failed to properly self-monitor and make timely reports of excess pollutant levels.
