From Sollas, the road that heads towards Bayhead is known as the Committee Road. It is called this as it was organised by a committee charged with providing famine relief in the 1840s. The village of Sollas has a local supermarket and school. Every July the residents of Sollas enjoy a week of fun and games in the annual 'Sollas Week'.

The people are almost entirely Protestant.
