The school was set to close in August 2012, due to continuously falling behind in exam results and Ofsted

 reports. They entered special needs in 2005, but managed to get out of these by 2006. But continuing GCSE failings have caused Walsall Education to close the school. There are plans for it to merge with Frank F. Harrison Community School

 to cope with the falling student numbers and exam results. The Sneyd site will be used until Frank F Harrison Engineering College is able to expand to cope with the numbers of students that will be joining due to Sneyd's closure.

As of September 2011, the school was closed down and re-opened as a specialist engineering university technical collage (utc). Currently, the school has approximately 150 students. The school is a joint run project between Walsall College and Wolverhampton University. Only two of the previous teachers remain at the school, and the previous head teacher Mr. Sweeney has now left the school.
