The school opened in 1965 and expansion work took place in 1968 and again in 1971. It has had higher pupil numbers since September 1992, when it took in most of the pupils from the closing Forest Comprehensive School

The head mistress is Jacqui Grace who took up the post in november 2009.

The college received an excellent OFSTED report in November 2006 which stated that it was a 'good school, with excellent capacity for improvement'.

In April 2009, it was announced that Frank F Harrison Engineering College would now be part of the first wave of Walsall's BSF programme.
