Simon Digby, 4th Baron Digby (18 July 1657 – 19 January 1686) was an English
nobleman and a Member of Parliament
.
Digby was a younger son of Kildare Digby, 2nd Baron Digby, and Mary Gardiner. In 1677 he succeeded his elder brother as fourth Baron Digby. This was a title in the Peerage of Ireland
and did not entitle him to a seat in the English House of Lords. In 1686 he was elected to the House of Commons
for Warwick
, a seat he held until his death the following year.
Lord Digby married Frances Noel, daughter of Edward Noel, 1st Earl of Gainsborough
and Lady Elizabeth Wriothesley (herself daughter of Thomas Wriothesley, 4th Earl of Southampton
). They had one daughter but no sons. Lady Digby died in 1684. Lord Digby survived her by just over a year and died in January 1686, aged only 28. He was succeeded in the barony by his younger brother William
.
His daughter, Hon. Frances Digby, married James Scudamore, 2nd Viscount Scudamore
. They had one daughter, Frances Scudamore (14 August 1711 – 16 February 1749/50), who in turn married Henry Somerset, 3rd Duke of Beaufort
(who changed his last name to Scudamore) and eloped with William Talbot
, later the 1st Earl Talbot
. She and Talbot had a daughter, also named Frances, and her marriage with Beaufort ended. Then she married Charles FitzRoy
(who change his last name to FitzRoy-Scudamore) with whom she had another daughter named Frances.
