Chipperfield joined the band in early 1996 a year after original bassist Annie Holland
left, and she became an especially close collaborator of Donna Matthews
during a period when Matthews became a more dominant creative force than bandleader Justine Frischmann
. She was asked to leave the group when Frischmann convinced Holland to return in 1998 (which eventually led to Matthews quitting). Years later, Frischmann called Chipperfield a "clean-living young chick" who was one of the only members not to use heroin in a difficult period for the band.
Chipperfield is now living in Berlin and is a successful DJ
playing clubs across Europe and has worked with artists as diverse as Peaches, Robots In Disguise, IAMX, Angie Reed, Stereo Total, Planning To Rock, Bruce LaBruce, Heidi Mortenson
, MEN, Scream Club, Kids On TV, Milenasong, The Fall, Damon Albarn, Stephen Malkmus and producers Alan Moulder (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins), Flood (PJ Harvey, U2) and Bruce Lampcov (David Bowie, Suede). Chipperfield was also involved in the production of the non-profit new music website www.liveroom.tv . This was created in April 2006 by Grammy nominated record producer, Andy Chatterley
and multimedia artist Anna Mercedes and is a platform for live new acts to be seen online.
