Early Life

Shane was born in upstate New York to John and Jody McDermott. At a young age, Shane’s family moved to Texas where he lived a normal suburban life, playing soccer and going to school.

Early Career

At age 12, Shane was discovered by the Ford Modeling agency. The abundance of work moved him and his family to New York City to where he worked as a child model for many years. In 1990, Shane shot his first commercial “Drug-free America” successfully transitioning him from modeling to acting.

Breakthrough

Shane first major break came in 1992, when he starred in the series Swans Crossing

The Painter

During the two years Shane spent on All My Children, he started to experiment with paint. While taking classes at the School of Visual Arts and studying at the New York Art Institute, Shane developed his unique technique. Thereafter, Shane spent 6 months in Seville, Spain studying art and painting full-time. Choosing art over acting, Shane moved to Galveston, Texas in 2003 where he paints and sells real estate. Shane is very active in local politics having served on numerous boards and committees. Currently, Shane is a Galveston Park Board Trustee. In May 2011, Shane married Laura Hughes.
