He is known as the compiler of the Remezov Chronicle
, and as the author of some of the earliest extant maps of Siberia, including the Godounov map, 1667 and Khorograficheskaya kniga (cartographical sketch-book), the originals of which are both part of the Houghton Library collections at Harvard University.
