The name was changed to Selby High School to reflect the change in status. In June 2005 Selby High School was awarded Specialist School Status in the Performing and Visual Arts. From then the school has built a state of the art dance studio, a 200 seat theatre stand and all weather pitch. The original plan was that the seating would become Selby cinema but the project folded due to lack of interest.

Specialist status

In 2003 Selby High School began to raise money that would go towards securing specialist status. In 2005, the school was awarded specialist status in the Performing Arts after the targets required had been successfully met.
In 2007 the School became the third most improved school in England.
